Here is a study guide for this week from Walter. Try to complete the blanks and answer these questions as you read through these chapters.

    1. Without doubt, the key thought for the book of Leviticus is found in 11:44,45, which is ________________________ for ____________________. What does this mean?

    2. Time and again it is stated that these laws and regulations were given to ______________ by __________ (4:1; 5:14; 6:1; etc. Stated up to 50 times!). Then they were to be given to _____________ (1:2; 4:2; 7:28) or to _____________ and _____________ (6:9,24). Why given specifically to these latter people?

    3. What is the importance of understanding that these laws were given to those people and not to Christians? Why should they be part of our Bible then, or be of any importance to us?

    4. Chapters 1-7 deal with rituals of worship under the Law of Moses, chapter one being devoted to ______________. Why is it called that? See 1:9,13. Note what is to be treated differently than the rest of the animal or bird (1:5,11,15).

    5. The animals offered are to be _______ ___________ (1:3,10). Why? In this respect, consider Malachi 1:6-8. What general lesson is there here for us?

    6. Besides animals and birds, what else might be offered to the Lord (chapter 2)?

    7. Chap. 3 – In contrast to the burnt offerings, the offering of _______________ (v. 1) might be either _______________________. After being offered, the flesh of this sacrifice might be __________ by the worshiper and the ___________ (see 7:15, 32,33). What is the worshiper specifically told is not to be eaten (3:16a,17; see also 7:23-27)).

    8. 4:l to 6:7 – The described “sin offerings” are for sins committed _______________(4:2, 13, 22, 27). Can you determine how the “guilt offering” (5:14-6:7) differs from the previously described “sin offerings”? The question naturally arises: What about sins committed intentionally? Note Numbers 5:30,31 and compare Hebrews 10:26-31.

    9. 8:1-9:24 – Consecration of the priesthood. Do you see the phrase repeated often in this section? __________________________________________. How did the Lord affirm what had been done regarding the priesthood (9:23,24)?

    10. 10:1-7 – What happened to Aaron’s older sons? Why did this happen? Cf. Numbers 3:2-4. Consider Deut. 10:12,13; Psalms 33:8; Hebrews 12:28-29. What lesson does this teach us?

    11. 10:8-10 – What was forbidden the priests? Why do you suppose that was? What particular duty did the priests have toward the people?

    12. 11:1-47 – The law of clean and unclean food. See also Deuteronomy 14:3-21. Try to figure what foods were allowed and what were not. As to the “why”, note Lev. 11:45. Some of these food laws are observed today by devout Jews and some also by Muslims. Remember these laws were given to ____________ and not to Christians. As to what Christians are allowed to eat, see Mark 7:14-23, esp. 19b; Acts 10:9-16; Acts 15:28-29; 1 Timothy 4:3-5; Romans 14:14,20; Hebrews 8:1-10.

    13. 12:1-8. Ritual purification after childbirth. Notice the provision for the parent too poor to offer a lamb. What was Mary’s situation with her special son (Luke 2:22-24)?

    14. 13:1 – 14:56. Laws regarding skin diseases and mold in ___________(13:47ff) and a ___________ (14:34). Note special instructions for the leper in relation to others (45-46).

    15. 15:1-33. Ceremonial purification re bodily discharges; separation so that they not __________ God’s _______________(v. 31).

    16. 16:1-34. The Day of Atonement, the one day of the year when the high priest (Aaron) could come _______ the ___________(v. 2,12,15). He must offer a bull as a sin offering for _______(v. 11) and then a goat for ____ _______(v. 15). Then another goat was sent __________ bearing the ___________ of the people (v.22).

    17. 17:1-16. Rules regarding killing of animals, lest they offer sacrifices to ____________ (7) and prohibition of eating of __________.

    18. 18:1-30. Forbidden sexual relations. Israel is not to act as what people (3,24,25) lest God have to do what with Israel (28)?
