Numbers 28 to 36 and Deuteronomy 1 to 9 – Study Guide.
28:1 to 29:40 – The laws of offerings repeated and explained.
As the Israelites neared the time of entry into Canaan, Moses repeated instructions
relating to various offerings.
30:1-16 – The laws of vows.
30:1 – What was vital as one made a vow before the Lord?
30:2-5 – What was vital if the vow of a single woman would stand?
30:6-15 – What would nullify the vow of a married woman?
What about the vow of a widow or divorced woman?
31:1-54 – The destruction of the Midianites. (It appears that the Midianites had joined with the Moabites in enticing Israel into prostitution and idolatry, cf. 25:1,2,6,16-18.)
How do you explain the Lord commanding the destruction of a people?
31:8, 16 – what man is included in this execution order, and why?
32:1-42 – The beginning of the settlements east of the Jordan River.
31:1-32 – What led the tribes of Reuben and Gad to want to settle in Gilead, to the
east of the Jordan? What was the condition under which they were allowed to settle
there?
31:33-42 – In addition to the Reubenites and Gadites, a half of the tribe of _______________ was also allowed to settle there.
33:1-48 – Stages of Israel journey from Egypt to Canaan.
33:38,39 – __________ died up on Mount Hor at the age of __________. Note Ex. 7:7.
33:50-56 – Commands concerning Canaan. Besides displacing the people of Canaan, what else was Israel to remove? What was the warning if these orders were not carried out?

36:1-13 – Concerning the marriage of female heirs. They might marry whom they chose, with the stipulation and it was within _________________________________.“Deuteronomy” – the term means “second law” or “repetition of the law.” Israel was now camped on the east side of the Jordan River, poised to enter Canaan (1:5). Moses spoke for God to the younger generation of Israel, all the older generation (except Joshua and Caleb) having died in the desert. Moses explained to this generation the terms and conditions of God’s covenant with Israel and their need to be obedient to it. It appears to be a series of speeches delivered orally, then written down to be preserved beside the ark of the covenant (31:24-26).
1:1-5 – The introduction.
1:6-8 – The command to enter the land. If you have access to a map of the area, see if you can identify the areas mentioned.
1:9-18 – The choice of leaders. Note the standard for the leaders to be chosen: __________,
___________, and _______________. In comparison, note standards for servants and leaders in the NT, Acts 6:3; 1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9.
1:16,17 – What was the desire and concern regarding judges?
1:19-45 – An account of the rebellion at Kadesh-barnea. How did Moses describe the actions of God with this people? (31) Yet, he said, they had no _______in the LORD (32)/
2:1-8 – The command to leave the Edomites alone. These people were descendants of
________, the brother of Jacob (Israel). See Genesis 32:3; 36:8,9.
2:8b-15 – The command to leave the Moabites alone. They were descendants of _______.
2:16-23 – The command to leave the Ammonites alone, also descendants of ______.

6:4-9 – Here is what Jesus called the first or greatest commandment (Mark 12:29). How is this teaching to be preserved and passed on to the next generations?
6:10-19 – What was the danger as they experienced by God’s grace the blessings of the land of Canaan?
6:20-25 – When the children ask —
7:1-6 – Dealing with the nations of Canaan.
7:7-16 – Why God chose Israel. The kind of God He is (v. 9) and the blessings He will bring.
7:17-28 – Do not be afraid…just remember.
8:1-10 – Remember the wilderness mercies.
8:11-20 – What not to think or say, but what to remember. What will happen if you forget.
9:1-5 – Do not say “It is because of that we have this land.” It is rather because of the of the nations that were there.
9:6-29 – Remembering the golden calf and other rebellions by Israel against God. -
